Thank you for your interest in our Global Land 1-kilometer Base Elevation (GLOBE) Digital Elevation Data CD-ROM. This two CD-ROM contains 30 arc second ("1 kilometer") post spacing elevation data for the landmasses of the entire world. This digital data is essential in the study of digital terrain modelling (DTM) as it applies to geographic information system (GIS) technology and many other disciplines.
This elevation data can be imported directly into Arc/Info, ArcView, or Mapinfo. See the instructions for using this data in various GIS and image processing software in the "user" directory on the CDROM.
The NOAA National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) has released the Global Land One-kilometer Base Elevation (GLOBE) digital elevation data set. GLOBE is an international effort to create a global digital elevation model (DEM) on a nominal 1-kilometer grid. GLOBE is an activity of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), and is part of Focus I of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme's Data and Information System (IGBP-DIS). Although other sources have developed global DEMs at this resolution during the life of the GLOBE project, GLOBE's international management, additional sources of data, peer review and documentation are more extensive.
The cost of this set of two CD-ROMs is $50.00 (US). This price includes shipping and handling by first class mail in the US or airmail for international orders. Be aware that for international orders, there may be a minor customs charge when you pick-up at the post office.Full coverage of the entire world is available in this data set. To assist you in selecting the data, an index image is included that show the coverage of the 16 files that compose this data set. This can be found on CDROM #1 in the "index" directory. You can view a graphic showing the coverage by clicking HERE.
