Thank you for your interest in our Digital Terrain Elevation Data Level 0 (DTEDŽ0) CD-ROM set. This two CD-ROM set contains 30 arc second ("1 kilometer") post spacing elevation data for the landmasses of the entire world. This digital data is essential in the study of digital terrain modelling (DTM) as it applies to geographic information system (GIS) technology and many other disciplines.
This elevation data can be imported directly into Arc/Info, or Mapinfo. It can not be imported into off-the-shelf ArcView. In addition to the Spatial Analyst Extension, a small modification to ArcView interface is necessary before this data can be imported directly. See the instructions on CDROM #1 in the directory "arcview" for the modification that is reqired to allow ArcView to import this data.
Each DTEDŽ0 data file contains elevation values for a 1 degree by 1 degree cell defined by whole degree latitude and longitude boundaries. Each cell consists of a grid or matrix of elevation posts at 30 arc second (approximately 3000 foot or 1 kilometer) intervals in lower and mid-latitudes, which is referenced geographically to the cell southwest corner. At higher latitudes the East-West post spacing in arc seconds is increased to accommodate convergence. Adjacent cell boundaries contain coincident posts, except where cells derived from the two different products adjoin.
Each 1 degree by 1 degree DTEDŽ0 data set, when extracted from the download WINZIP archive file contains up to four files: [xxx].dt0 and [xxx].max, [xxx].min, [xxx].avg files. The .dt0 file contains the elevation values for the specified cell. The .min, .max and .avg files contain minimum, maximum, and mean elevation values respectively for the specified cell.
The cost of this set of two CD-ROMs is $45.00 (US). This must be purchased as a two CD-ROM set. This price includes shipping and handling by first class mail in the US or airmail for international orders. Be aware that for international orders, there may be a minor customs charge when you pick-up at the post office.
Full coverage of the entire world is not available at this time. Small holidays exist in the data set. To assist you in determining the availablility of data over the entire world, a set of ArcView shapefiles are included that show the DTEDŽ0 coverage by 1 degree cell. This can be found on CDROM #1 in the "shape" directory. You can view a graphic showing the currently available coverage by clicking HERE.
