Digital Terrain Model (DTM) Software & Data Sampler CD-ROMGeoData Software Systems is pleased to announce the release of the first in a series of technical CD-ROMs. This new release is dedicated to Digital Terrain Models. This single CD contains shareware, freeware, public-domain software, (both executables and source code when available) and a wealth of elevation data in a wide variety of different formats. Included in the data section are numerous examples of elevation data in a variety of standard data formats. The entire NAVY10, ETOPO5, and GTOPO30 elevation data sets are included on the CD-ROM and provide worldwide elevation data coverage at 10 minutes, 5 minutes, and 30 seconds respectivly. This collection is ideal for the GIS classroom environment as a sources of software and data for lesson development. One Degree DEM of the U.S. CD-ROMThe second CD-ROM in this series, is a pair of CD-ROMs containing all of the 1° elevation data sets for the entire United States (including Alaska & Puerto Rico). This data is the US Geological Survey's medium resolution DEM data stored as one-by-one degree tiles. This is an ideal companion to go along with the DTM Data & Software Sampler. Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED Level 0)The National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) has developed a standard digital dataset (Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTEDŽ) Level 0) which may be of value to scientific, technical, and other communities. This DTEDŽ product is a uniform matrix of terrain elevation values which provides basic quantitative data for systems and applications that require terrain elevation, slope, and/or surface roughness information. DTEDŽ Level 0 elevation post spacing is 30 arc second (nominally one kilometer). In addition to this discrete elevation file, a separate binary file provides the minimum, maximum, and mean elevation values computed in 30 arc second square areas (organized by one degree cell). Finally, DTEDŽ Level 0 contains the NIMA Digital Mean Elevation Data (DMED) providing minimum, maximum, and mean elevation values and standard deviation for each 15 minute by 15 minute area in a one degree cell. This initial prototype release is a "thinned" data file extracted from the NIMA DTEDŽ Level 1 holdings where available and from the elevation layer of NIMA VMAP Level 0 to complete near world wide coverage.
